TONY LUCIANI

b. 1956


Tony Luciani is an established, full-time painter and photographer born in Toronto ON in 1956. He is a recipient of numerous Ontario Arts Council and Elizabeth Greenshields grants – and is a founder and former Board of Director member of The Harriston-Minto Heritage Gallery, as well as a founder and former member of the Minto Arts Council.

Tony has exhibited nationally and internationally in numerous shows over his career. Since 1980, these include 25+ Solo Exhibitions and 75+ Group Exhibitions within Canada, and over a dozen international Group Exhibitions including the prestigious “Figurativas 2019” at the Museo Europeo de'Arte Moderno (MEAM) in Barcelona, Spain – where Tony was awarded First Prize in the exhibition for his oil on canvas, “The Dressmaker”.

Tony Luciani was twice a finalist for The Kingston Prize, Canada's National Juried Portrait Competition, and has exhibited at institutional galleries such as the Art Gallery of Calgary, Royal Ontario Museum, City of Toronto Archives Market Gallery, Tom Thomson Memorial Gallery in Owen Sound, as well as major private galleries in Canada and the US.

In 2018/2019 Luciani received international recognition and acclaim for a series of photographs of his mother’s struggle with dementia. MAMMA, In the Meantime, is a frank, poignant and humorous exploration of their mother/son relationship. A number of the photographs in the series were taken by his mother – as a joint contribution to their journey.

Tony Luciani’s educational background includes Sheridan Community College, Oakville ON, Ontario College of Art, Toronto ON (now OCADU), and the Ontario College of Art, 'Florence Off-Campus Program', post graduate studies, Florence, Italy. Tony is listed in the 'Canadian Who's Who.'
